Sulpha is a sacred dragon of the Hawk Men with poison breath. The dragon destroys the Hawkmen's sacrificial victims, much like the droks at Ming's palace. Flash and Thun accidently fall into its pit when escaping the Hawkmen and Thun is knocked out by its breath. However Flash is able to knock Sulpha out long enough to blast the wall and climb on the remnants out of Sulpha's reach. ("The Monsters of Mongo")

1996 animated Series

In the Flash Gordon animated series of 1996, "Sulpha" is the name of Ming the Merciless's head scientist. She is depicted as a dragon-headed female, presumably the last of her people. She was serving Ming but was not very loyal to her master, often even secretly helping Flash Gordon and his friends.
